Something terribly beautiful happens every so often when it rains while the weather is around 32 degrees Fahrenheit. The rain, as it falls, freezes on contact with everything and anything, creating a huge hazard and a gorgeous masterpiece that nature has laid upon the land. When this happens, it can cause huge disruptions in people daily lives, especially their social lives. On Sunday, April 15, hundreds of thousands of DTE Energy customers were unpleasantly surprised to wake up to no power. Good news is that almost all of those affected by the storm should have their power back by the evening of Tuesday, April 17. Although this appeared to have a negative effect on many, all I could see was the art around me.
Even though ice tends to be problematic, it creates beautiful patterns and pieces outside. As every snowflake falls, it has its own individual pattern of ice crystals to give them their shape. Even solid ice does this as well, but it can be more difficult to see.
Ice is so stunningly clear that anything inside it is still as visible as before, yet wrapped in a layer of ice. As you can see in this tree branch, the detail the ice shows is bright and bold.
It cocoons natural and artificial objects in the same fashion, as you can see from the photos above and below. Nothing is safe from being frozen in a sheet of ice, at least for a short while. It can leave a pattern riddling a basketball hoop, or encapsulate a field of grass, blade by blade
Even though this freezing rain had its fair share of inconveniences and issues, it also has show-stopping beauty.
