Junior Bria Washington leaps into blue powder at the start of the 3rd Annual 5K Groves Color Run on October 2.   This year, participating in the Color Run counted as points towards The Bucket the coveted trophy of Groves’ spirit week and raised over $500 toward the end of the year charity pick.

This year, the  3rd Annual Groves Color Run on October 2, one of the newest additions to spirit week, counted as points towards the bucket, the coveted trophy of Groves’ spirit week. The event consisted of students from all grades running three laps around the school while getting splattered with food coloring by members of the student council, or GSC.

"I started getting tired by the middle of the second lap around the school, but getting doused in all those colors and knowing we were raising money for a good cause kept me running," junior Bria Washington said.

The event raised over $500 towards the end of the year charity pick.  Junior Brendan Larson hopes he gets to pick the charity.

"I have a family member with Non-Hodgkin lymphoma, so I dedicated my run to him and would love to pick a charity at the end of the year that helps people like him fight cancer," Larson said.

Juniors won this event with over fifty signing up to run the 5K, but senior Henry Van Faussien, who coached a number of the senior runners and led  a series of stretches before race was not disappointed by the upset.

"We will still win the bucket," Van Faussien said, "and all of us who ran helped others win a fight against cancer.

Before the Color Run, members of the Groves Varsity football team, junior Ralph Donaldson and senior Henry Van Faussien, lead the runners in a series of stretches before starting their powdery journey on October 2.
