On September 9th, 2019 a new local show debuted: Bubbie’s Kitchen. The show is a recent addition to the online section of Detroit Jewish News. The Detroit Jewish strives to produce quality and entertaining content on the local Jewish community. And Bubbie’s Kitchen is the ideal show for Elders in the local community to showcase their brilliant recipes. The first episode featured Franklin resident Valerie Indenbaum. Valerie has been cooking since the age of five. It has always been a passion of hers and she finds that passing on her incredible concoctions is extremely rewarding. When she was asked to join the show she knew it would be perfect for her.
“Upon receiving that call, I was ecstatic. I have always been a huge fan of cooking shows and its always been a dream of mine to be on one. Also, I love to teach my grandchildren how to cook and I couldn’t wait to teach even more people!” Indenbaum said. Valerie showed her viewers how to make her famous rugelach, a must for every Jewish holiday. Rugelach is a traditional Jewish pastry that is basically a small cookie rolled into a cylinder form. The melted butter, cinnamon sugar, and flavorful pecans combine together to make a splendid dessert for your sweet tooth. Valerie, along with the host of the show Josh Golberg, takes us through step by step on how to make this dessert. Not only that but this show combines humor, Jewish history, and the art of baking. As Valerie takes her viewers through each complex detail to her baking she also tells about her love for collecting and reading. Joshua chimed in during the show to include an educational aspect of Jewish history. Valerie not only got to share her love for cooking but she is practically famous now! “I was so surprised the other day when I was at gym class two ladies came up to me and asked who I was because I looked so familiar. I was so confused because I never saw these ladies before. But when I told them my name they said they saw me on Bubbie’s kitchen and made my rugelach and absolutely loved it! It made me extremely happy to hear that” Indenbaum said. If you’re a grandma and looking for a chance to express your baking talents this show is perfect for you. And if you’re a reader who after this article is desperate to try Valerie’s famous rugelach the recipe is shared down below! And her secret… “the more butter the better!” Indebaum exclaimed.
