Reviewing Costco’s Chicken Bake

The Chicken Bake from Costco’s Wholesale Food Court. For only $2.99 and found at any local Costco, as the menu is virtually identical for every food court at all locations, this is a favorite of hungry Costco shoppers across the United States. It’s made from chunks of grilled chicken breast strips that are fried into a hand-rolled crispy crust with provolone and parmesan cheeses, smokey bacon bits, green onions and savory Caesar dressing.
Here, on November 15, in an overlook of the Chicken Bake in all its mouth-watering glory, the breaded coating is baked to a golden crisp, with all sorts of excellence hidden inside the hard shell.
The item is certainly not a visually appealing one, nor is it a masterpiece of handmade human creation. In my experience, the bread roll can often come misshapen or be a bit overcooked; but when the Costco team manages to get it just right, it is unabashedly the best thing on the menu.
On paper, the combination of ingredients may sound outright absurd, but the gooey mix encased with the special bread coating truly just works. There is a very pronounced crunichiness in each bite, and the warm gooiness of the inside creates a scintillating sensation.
Whatever you do, don’t let the underside of the item dissuade you. While not the most promising looking bite to eat from this view, looks can be deceiving, and that's how it was when I tried it on November 15.
The average consumer may not think of Costco as being renowned for their food court selection, but for the most part the selection available remains a shockingly good deal, including the Chicken Bake itself. This item is excellent in countless ways, and is a rock solid recommendation on my part. In this world-renowned food critic’s opinion, there is nothing deceiving about this item and there is nothing holding it back, therefore it is rewarded with a 5/5 score.
